Abraham Lincoln: Largest Size Ferrotype Doughnut. AL-1860-78, 47 mm silvered copper shell. The most desirable version of the "Big Doughnut" with hand-scripted names and six-pointed stars. We are aware of three other examples...the one in the Andrew Zabriskie Collection and the one in the Merrill C. Berman Collection which we sold in 2015 for $18,250. Another rests in another private collection. There is one listed, but not pictured in DeWitt, copied from the King catalog, possibly the Zabriskie specimen. We believe this example was acquired over 50 years ago by the current consignor from a Minnesota collector. The ferrotypes are gorgeous. The silvering on the frame has worn off or oxidated, leaving an even, mellow patina. Lacks suspension loop, as do most. A Lincoln "for the ages!"
