    Description

Abraham Lincoln: Anti-Lincoln Letter And Small Anti-Lincoln Flag Pin. 2 pp, February 27, 1861, Dubuque (Iowa), splits at fold and light age toning. One relative writes to another regarding his distain for President Elect Abraham Lincoln. Commenting how he flew through Baltimore, being "stealthy". There were assassination threats against Lincoln from the time he left Philadelphia until he reached Washington, none more apparent than the ones coming out of Baltimore. The writer states "He said he was public property now and would ignore all ease - yet at the shadow of danger he flies"...."His is to be the kissing administration. He smacks his lips and let Seward do the gasing for him. Seward the dictator is about shoving off into chaotic abyss Horace Greeley and that ilk"...."I do hope that the Lincoln administration may lower their platform, make some concessions as will satisfy the South....". With the letter comes an amazing artifact, being a 1 1/4" x 1 3/8" cloth piece with gold tape along the edges. In the center it reads "Three Groans For Lincoln". We suspect that the author of this letter wore this pin proudly.
