Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas: Rare "Debates" in Titled Wraps. "Political Debate Between Hon. Abraham Lincoln and Hon. Stephen A. Douglas", Columbus, Ohio, Follett, Foster and Company, 1860, 268pp. 8vo. [6" x 9"], stitched, some pencil annotations in an unknown hand on pp. 242-243, light damp staining and wear to outer leaves, internally clean with minimal foxing. First edition, early printing of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates. Lincoln specialist and author David Leroy states: "Recognizing the paper-wrapped issue as a separate edition gives the collector a total of eight books to pursue." It has only two preliminary leaves; a title page with copyright statement on verso and a Table of Contents which is blank on verso; the signature mark "2" can be found at the bottom of page 13. While hardbound copies of the Debates are plentiful, the paperback version constitutes a true rarity.
