    Description

Zachary Taylor: Rare Staffordshire Pitcher with Presidential Portrait. Bulbous 7" soft paste pitcher with bluish-gray transfers, Of greatest interest is the portrait of Taylor beneath the spout. It reads: "General Z. Taylor Born Novr. 24th 1784 Elected President of America 1848". The other transfers include two different drinking & smoking vignettes and a comical commentary on bankruptcy proceedings appearing, of all places, on the bottom (indicating, perhaps, that what's on bottom one day will be on top the next!). One tight hairline below the handle, but generally in excellent condition. We have seen the same Taylor transfer on a small toddy plate.
