    Description

    Victory & Liberty.

Zachary Taylor: Outstanding Straight Razor. 6 1/2" razor with black bone handle stamped "Joseph Elliot For Barber Use". The front side of the blade has a military portrait of Taylor, surrounded by flags, cannon, drum, rifle, trumpets and guidon. It is titled at the top: "General Taylor, Victory & Liberty." The circle around Taylor's portrait reads: "Z. Taylor. Joseph Elliot's Military Razor." The design and inscription is very clear and not marred by the typical tarnish, pitting and corrosion. Given the title, this was likely a souvenir of the 1848 presidential campaign.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
