Zachary Taylor: Lithophane with Original Stand Lithophanes are porcelain plaques with impressed designs, either decorative or historical. The designs have various levels of thickness. In natural light, the design is discernible in a monochromatic tone. When lit from behind, the image appears, giving the impression of a fine lithograph or engraving. We have seen examples for Winfield Scott, Zachary Taylor, Henry Clay and Abraham Lincoln. They are all quite rare. Most, if not all, were produced by KPM in Germany. This is the Taylor example, likely issued in 1848 for the presidential campaign. Measures 6.25" x 8.25" and is mounted in a brass Gothic frame. This frame can be inserted in the metal stand using a candle holder for illumination. Taylor is depicted in military uniform, spyglass in hand, beneath an American eagle, wreath and flags, while a battle rages in the background. It is quite impressive!

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
