William Henry Harrison: "Our Country's Hope" Large 1840 Pitcher. 9.25" to the top of the handle. Three political transfer images adorn this pitcher: a portrait with the "Harrison & Reform", "Our Country's Hope", "Tippecanoe", and "Thames"; an eagle grasping in its beak a ribbon that reads "Union for the Sake of Union"; and a picturesque log cabin on whose door reads "To Let in 1840". The white glaze is clean, with a copper-lustre trim, and the reddish transfer images distinct. On the underside, the British-made vessel bears the imprint of a U.S. retailer: "MANUFACTURED - for Robt. H. Miller - ALEXANDRIA - D.C." A fine and eagerly sought-after presidential pitcher. Slight surface wear to the rim and a pre-firing chip to the inner lip, else, choice. From the Edward C. Gillette Collection.
