William Henry Harrison: Imposing Teapot from the 1840 Campaign. This wonderful set, which includes various flat and hollow pieces, is loaded with campaign imagery: the teapot boasts four medallion-style portraits of WHH, plus two scenes of his Northbend farm, with the log cabin flying a flag, and barrel labeled "hard cider". "Log Cabin" mark on bottom. Overall condition is outstanding: there are several old small chips where the underside of lid and rim of the pot made contact, which of course are not visible when the piece is displayed, and are trivial in any event. A couple of small, old shallow chips at the pouring lip of the spout are similarly inconsequential (of course, if one cared to have it done, any good china restorer could invisibly restore these minor chips). A couple of somewhat larger old chips on the underside of the (original) finial on the lid are similarly non-distracting, and easily restored. Otherwise condition is beautiful, with excellent color, free of age browning, and no cracks or other significant damage. Height 6.25", length 9.625". A great early political display item with wonderful presence and period flavor. From the collection of U. I. "Chick" Harris.
