William Henry Harrison: Fabulous Reverse Painting on Glass Wooden Box. 11 1/2" x 7 3/4" x 3 1/2" lidded, wooden box. It appears to be made of pine with a bevelled lid, all covered with veneer (minor chipping and loss, of no consequence). The interior of the lid is truly magnificent as it holds an 8 1/4" x 5" reverse painting on glass panel depicting "Gen. Wm. H. Harrison The Hero of Tippecanoe", superimposed on red and white stripes with a log cabin and cider barrel above. This is held in place by marbled paper, surrounded by yellow paper with orange paper trim on the edges and a blue paper lining on the bottom. The colors are vibrant with a true folk art feel. The lettering is gold which only serves to heighten the graphic appeal. We have seen other examples which tend to have defects such as cracked glass, but this one is by far the best... truly a gorgeous piece. From the Scott W. Dolson Collection.
