William Henry Harrison: Elegant Wood Chest with Colorful Reverse-on Glass Portrait on Inside of Lid. The vivid colors and design elements make this one of the most striking of early political display items. Harrison's name and a semi-circle of stars appear in green letters above his military portrait, with "The Hero of Tippecanoe" below. The central design is superimposed on an American flag with star-studded cantons in opposite corners. The glass panel is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". The box measures 11.5" x 7.5" x 3.5" and appears to be cherry stained pine with a beveled top. There is green paper lining. The glass panel is secured with strips of marblized paper with a yellow paper border. There are two lateral cracks in the glass with scattered flaking in the background. A graphic and colorful display piece.
