    Description

Mexican War Patriotic/Political Cake Board. This 12" x 10" x 3/4" carved cake board dates from 1847-1848. It is made of walnut or mahogany and depicts a soldier with raised sword, a military tent, a U. S. flag, a stand of cannon balls, a cannon, drum and drumsticks, all within a fanciful border. The carving is very deep and sharply chiseled. We believe the soldier is meant to depict Zachary Taylor. He smiles broadly. This piece of American folk art exudes charm from every pore. It has an old loop at top for hanging and came out of an auction in rural Ohio.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
