    Description

John Quincy Adams: Colorful Circa 1828 Sewing Box with His Portrait. These lovely boxes are particularly popular with collectors because they are among the earliest display items which were unquestionably made to promote political candidates. A padded velvet pin cushion on the top reads "People's Choice" in red letters, while a portrait of Adams under glass appears on the inside of the lid. The exterior is covered with rainbow-colored paper and trimmed with embossed gold-colored paper borders. This is an exceptionally nice example, as the sides are tapered toward the bottom rather than the usual straight sides, creating a very attractive form. Condition is about as nice as we have seen on one of these. The only imperfection being that the lid is separated from the box along the fragile paper "hinge". The vulnerable cushion on top has minimal wear, and the usually obliterated slogan is still readable. Length 4.75", height 2.5". From the collection of U. I. "Chick" Harris.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
