    Freeman Woodcock Thorp (American, 1844-1922).
    Oil on canvas.
    20" x 24".
    Signed at lower right Thorp.

John Alexander Logan (1826-1886) was a U.S. soldier and politician. He served in the Mexican-American War as a second lieutenant; in the Civil War, he rose to the rank of major general and won a Medal of Honor for the Vicksburg Campaign. Between the wars, he earned his law degree and served in the Illinois state legislature. Later, Logan served as: a member of the United States House of Representatives from Illinois (1859-1862, 1867-1870); a member of the United States Senate (1871-1886); and as James G. Blaine's Vice Presidential running mate in 1884.

Paint surface is chipped at upper and lower left and bottom; the inpainting in these areas is noticeable upon close inspection but is mostly all outside the facial features. The varnish has been removed. Otherwise good.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
