James Monroe: Rare, Small Ceramic Mug with Handle. A federal eagle surmounts a banner bearing his name, surrounded by vines and floral motif. Black on white, with pink luster accents around the top rim and along the handle. A similar example, but with the name spelled "Munroe", sold for $9,560 at our March 2008 auction of the Edward C. Gillette collection (Auction 6004, Lot 48035). This example is in great display condition, with strong bold transfer. Minor restoration to the underside. However, it is otherwise untouched and original. Height 2.5", diameter 3.25" including handle. From the collection of U. I. "Chick" Harris.
