James Monroe: Miniature on Ivory. Our fifth president, James Monroe, is artfully depicted on this miniature on ivory. It measures 2.5" x 3" and is framed to 5" x 6". It appears to be signed Faber. The quality is quite good and it likely dates to sometime in the 19th century, perhaps even contemporaneous with Monroe. The frame is very handsome and there is glass on both sides, revealing the paper backing of the portrait. There are three cracks in the area of the coat which are barely noticeable and do not impinge on the portrait. There also appears to be some restoration to the blue background at the very top of the painting. The glass on the front is early 19th century bubble glass.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
