    Description

James Madison: Extremely Rare Serving Dish From This Personal China Service, Used in the White House. Few categories of presidential artifacts are collected more aggressively than White House China, and this is one of the very rarest collectable styles. This elegantly turned, diamond-shaped serving dish, appropriately marked "Nast a Paris" on the underside was, according to Klankins' White House China, part of a service of French porcelain purchased for Madison in 1806, when he was secretary of state. It is generally believed that this set was used at the White House when it was re-occupied after the British burned it in 1814, when the accumulation of china from the previous three presidencies was destroyed. This important piece is in choice condition, and its beautiful form makes it far more appealing than a standard dinner or dessert plate, themselves very rare. 12" x 9.5".
