    Description

James A. Garfield: Large Ironstone Pitcher in Remarkable Condition. Clearly a political rather than memorial issue, with patriotic eagle below pouring spout and name in raised letters on "pennant" below his high relief bust. Same design on reverse side. This type of pottery is notorious for surface crazing and browning, but this example is virtually mint. There is one hairline crack along the bottom. Not a terribly scarce variety, but a true "condition rarity" in this state, and accordingly with much greater display presence than one normally expects from this item. Height: 8.25".
