    Description

    Independence Hall: Carved "Know-Nothing" Relic Cane Dated 1855. 34.5" wooden cane with metal tip and silver handle. The top has the engraved name of the owner "H. Clark" and a inlaid shield of some unknown black substance. The front of the handle is engraved: "Made Of the Original Timber of Independence Hall Jany. 1st 1855". Design elements include a fasces, open book, shining star and ballot box inscribed "21 YS". The latter refers to the Know Nothing policy that immigrants reside in the U.S. for 21 years before becoming naturalized citizens. Normal, light wear. Good condition overall.
