George Washington: Rare Equestrian Figure Mug. General Washington appears on his white charger, in command of troops preparing for battle, on this rare 5" tall Liverpool mug. The same transfer appears on punch bowls, usually in conjunction with other designs, but this is the only piece of hollow ware we have seen where it is the sole design. It is titled: "George Washington, Esqr. General and Commander in Chief of the Continental Army in N. America". The bottom part of the last four words do not appear, no doubt a factory defect, but of little consequence. Despite the subject, this mug was likely produced for export to America after the 1783 Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War. The condition is excellent.
