    Description

George Washington: "Long Live the President of the United States" Liverpool Creamware Tankard. Universally considered to be the most desirable Washington transfer. Interestingly, it seems to have been used mostly on tankards- in general a rarer form- than on pitchers. But in forty+ years we have not seen more than a half-dozen examples. Display condition is excellent. For accuracy we note that a roughly 1" x 1" piece was cleanly broken out at the top edge and has been neatly glued back in place. One minor edge chip on the base does not detract, nor does one extremely fine, almost invisible hairline. One of the nicest early presidential display pieces. Height 6".

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
