    Description

George Washington: Commemorative Engraved Pocket Watch. This large Hunter's Case pocket watch is 2 3/8" across and has engraved scenes on both the front and the back cover. One cover shows George Washington standing alongside his horse, copied from a famous portrait done during his lifetime. The other cover has a military stand and flags. The dial indicates it is a "Railway Timekeeper" manufactured by Joseph Johnson of Liverpool. It seems to be in working order, but lacks the glass. It has a lever fusee movement, fully jeweled to the fusee. The gold case, though marked, is less than 18K and probably closer to 10K. It was made circa 1830-1850. It is one of the nicer Washington commemorative items you are likely to encounter.
