George McClellan: Tin and Glass 1864 Parade Lantern. This 4" x 4" x 7" tin and glass parade lantern has a circular sleeve on the bottom and was meant to be carried in parades for the 1864 Democratic candidate. There are four glass panels. These are smooth on the inside and textured or pebbled on the outside. They are "bubble" glass of the period. The interior of two of the panes have stenciled white letters that read "Union" and "Little Mac". Some of the letters in "Little" are worn or partially formed. There is some wax residue in the candleholder from actual use. The lantern is open at the top, as made, and the panes are all intact. Ex: Burt Sugar Collection. Subsequently offered in one of Tom Slater's fixed-price color catalogs issued circa 1990-1991.
