Garfield & Arthur: Matched Pair of Collar Boxes. These campaign novelties from 1880 measure 4 3/4" x 4 3/4" x 3 1/4". The hinged boxes are made of wood. The lids have gutta percha plaques mounted to them. One depicts "James A. Garfield" and the other his running mate, "Gen. Chester A. Arthur". The Arthur is in real nice shape with an inconsequential crack in the base. It has the name of the merchant, Charles Willner, rubber-stamped in the base. The lid on the Garfield is somewhat loose. It is stamped "Ward's" on the front and has a wonderful storecard pasted to the inside of the lid. It advertises "Williamson & Foster, Dealers in Clothing" of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
