Exceptional c.1800 George Washington Memorial Liverpool Creamware Pitcher
"Washington in Glory," with his profile and birth/death dates on side of memorial obelisk. "America in Tears" below. Rather incongruously, the reverse side features a vibrant color transfer of the sailing ship "Mary and Nancy," sporting an American flag. Below is the name of the ship's captain, and interlocking initials under pouring spout, so this was a custom-ordered jug. Unusual bold, heavy, black border at top and on handle in mourning of GW. Has had some professional repair and restoration, but displays beautifully. Label on bottom identifies it as being from the famous Paul Richards collection, sold in the 1990's. Substantial 9" size.
