    Description

Comte de Rochambeau Miniature Wall Plaque. 2.25" unsigned miniature painting of Jean-Baptiste Comte de Rochambeau mounted in a 4.5" hardwood frame with suspension loop on verso. Rochambeau came to the assistance of the colonies in their war for independence in 1780, joining with Washington in the capture of Yorktown. There appears to be a semi-circle of fabric fibers at the top of the portrait which we assume can be cleaned off. Likely made sometime in the 19th century. We are selling the James Monroe mate in the Signature Session of our sale.
