Description

Civil War-Inspired Red, White and Blue Canteen Parade Torch. Tin canteen (5 1/2" wide and 3" deep) mounted on the original 60" pole. The canteen is painted red, white and blue with chipping and scattered loss of paint, mainly on the sides and top. The bracket is slightly loose. Displays quite nicely. Given the large number of Civil War veterans who participated in marching clubs in the post-war period, one would think that a "canteen" torch would be easy to find. In fact, this is the only example we recall seeing. It is deceptively rare and should appeal to both political collectors and Civil War buffs. It is not listed in Herb Collins' 1964 reference work on campaign torches.
