Andrew Jackson: Very Rare Campaign Thread Box. 5" x 3.25" x 2.25" pasteboard thread box issued on behalf the candidacy of Andrew Jackson in 1828. It has downwardly sloping or bombé sides, is covered with rainbow-colored paper and gold embossed paper trim. The lid has a velvet pincushion with a wreath & leaves (the coloring worn off these two design elements), crossed flags and the motto "Victory to Jackson". The interior of the lid has an engraved military portrait of Jackson. There is scattered wear. The glass cover to the portrait is missing. It retains the two cloth hinges (detached). That said, it is extremely rare. You see perhaps twenty Adams thread boxes for every Jackson. These boxes were likely manufactured in New England which was not exactly "Jackson territory". We assume these "went begging" at the time, but are highly-prized today. From the Collection of David and Janice Frent.
