Andrew Jackson: Colorful Sewing Box, the Mate to the Preceding John Quincy Adams Box in equally exceptional condition, with "Old Hickory Forever" in red on the cushion. On this example the lid is still attached to the box, which is rarely encountered on these. Their fragile cardboard and paper construction is highly vulnerable to wear and moisture, and so most surviving examples have real condition problems. The opportunity to obtain not just one, but a matched pair in such clean condition and with distinguished provenance, is a rare one indeed. The Jackson box has the standard straight up-and-down sides. Length 4.75", height 2.5". From the collection of U. I. "Chick" Harris.
