Andrew Jackson: A Charming Battersea Enamel Patch Box with His Color Portrait. One of the most unusual display pieces in the Frent Collection, it was probably produced around 1815 to honor Jackson after his victory at the Battle of New Orleans. Interestingly, the portrait is not of Jackson, but a "stock" image of King William IV of England. (This is not unusual, as British workshops tended to make do with what was available to get their products out into the marketplace. A famous example is the "James Madison" Liverpool pitcher that features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson!) This unique box is pictured in Schlesinger's Running For President 1789-1896 (page 97) although it was clearly not issued for campaign purposes. Slightest hint of surface crazing is noted for accuracy, although in this regard it is superior to most Battersea boxes seen. 2.75" x 1.5" x 1". For strictest accuracy, we note minor damage to the mirror on the underside of the lid.
