    Description

Abraham Lincoln: Outstanding Gold Mint Medal and Engraved Portrait Pocket Watch. AL-1864-70, 18 mm gold. Mounted as a fob under domed glass. Attached to a 13.75" seven-segment watch fob and chain to a 40 mm gold pocket watch. The chain is 14K and has the maker's mark of Carter, Gough & Company of Newark, New Jersey. The 18K watch is Swiss-made and marked by the retailer "At. Redard" of Geneva. It has a gilt bar 11-jewel movement, key wind and key set, white enamel dial with moon hands. Currently not working. One side of the 18K case has a chased gold & enamel floral design against a latticework background. The other side has a gold & enamel engraved portrait of Lincoln. The portrait is quite unusual and seems to have been modelled on an image that dates circa 1861 or 1862. Apparently issued during the presidential election of 1864. Here is an opportunity to not only get a rare and desirable U. S. Mint medal in proof condition (the only presidential campaign token issued in gold) as well as a political watch for our most popular President. A fabulous pairing!!
