    Description

[Abraham Lincoln]: Pitkin or Double-Swivel Campaign Torch. This style was created in 1860 so that the torch would always remain upright. This example in excellent condition showing only normal oxidation from age. Approximately 8 " tall and 6 " in diameter. Although produced from 1860 to 1880, based on various factors, we feel confident dating this to 1860 when it was the torch-of-choice for the Lincoln Wide Awake marching club.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
