Woodrow Wilson: A Mammoth Signed Bronze Plaque, With Southwestern Motifs, Honoring President Wilson. Measuring 25" x 42", this deep-relief bronze sculpture probably dates from the period of Wilson's presidency, 1913-1921. Blankets, pottery, and other artifacts from the American southwest were very much in vogue among interior designers of the early 20th century. It seems likely that such a large piece was probably created for a bank or office building. It is signed on the front by the artist, "Ludv. Dorge" (Ludwig Dorge, Danish-American sculptor, 1872 - 1960, best known for plaques produced for the 1933 Century of progress exposition.)

We have never seen another example of this plaque, and its massive size and quality of execution strongly suggest that it is a one-of-a-kind sculpture executed on commission. Surely the finest bronze plaque depicting an American president which we have ever encountered. Excellent condition, with original mounting loops on back for easy wall display.
