Theodore Roosevelt: Large Over-the-Top Great White Fleet Silk and Photographic Display in Pristine Condition. 25" x 44" [framed] display commemorating the trip of the Great White Fleet around the world in 1907-1909. It is titled "In Memory of Our Famous Cruise Around the World." Unlike similar souvenir textiles produced in Japan and sold to U. S. sailors on leave, it has all the bells-and-whistles and stands as an exemplar of the genre. It uses gold and silver metallic thread in abundance. The colors are vibrant, like the day it was made. The design is sewn onto a black velvet ground. Portraits on silk of Theodore Roosevelt, Rear Admiral William H. Emory and Rear Admiral Robley Evans appear below a three-dimensional eagle, while a scene of the glorious Great White Fleet is framed below. The interior of the life preserver is stamped "George Washington Co., Yokohama, Japan". Truly breathtaking!

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
