    Description

SATIN PURSE AND ACCESSORIES USED BY FIRST LADY BESS TRUMAN AND HER DAUGHTER MARGARET (OF COTROVERSIAL SINGING TALENT FAME).

Please note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, additional shipping costs may apply.

The purse contains separate matching card case and change purse (marked "Julius Garfinkle, Washington, D. C."), as well as a bottle of the First Lady's perfume!  The card case contains one of Margaret's formal calling cards, with ink notations in her hand.  The purse was given by Mrs. Truman to White House First Maid Lillian Parks, while the perfume was given to another White House maid who served the Trumans for nearly eight years.  Provenance is documented by 1983 letter and 1984 signed note from each.  Excellent condition but for light surface soiling.  Real 1940's-early 1950's-style "period piece."
