MOST UNUSUAL LARGE 1920’S-ERA KKK BRONZE PLAQUE. We are at a loss to interpret this item which seems to link the Ivy League Dartmouth College to the Klan! A pillar (of wisdom?) stands on a rocky island in a storming sea. Hanging from the pillar is a charm marked "Dartmouth 1842" (significance of date???). Breaking through the clouds are the rays of the sun boldly labeled "KKK." You figure it out, but an odd connection in any case! Heavy, well-made 9 ½ x 8 ½" plaque in Excellent condition. We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
