James A. Garfield: Wedgwood Etruria Pitcher.
Highly colorful 7.5" pitcher by Wedgwood of England titled "Garfield Born 1831 President 1881". It has a large transfer portrait of Garfield on one side and an American eagle, shield and flags on the other. A shield with crossed arrows appears below the spout. The neck, spout and handle all have hand-painted highlights over transfer decorations. There is a tight hairline crack running down from the lip, through the word 1881 and terminating in the third or fourth leaf of the wreath. There is also a tight hairline crack in the bottom which, by the way, is inscribed the "Garfield Jug." Possibly issued in conjunction with the inauguration.
