Grant & Colfax: One of the Most Remarkable 19th Century, Three-Dimensional Political Items We Have Ever Encountered. Words fail to fully convey the charm of this massive, solid bronze and brass sculpture featuring "Jugate" satirical standing figures of the two 1868 running mates after the noted cartoonist Thomas Nast. The plaque on the base reads, "To the White House March 4th 1869". Incised in block letters around the base, "Fundicion Artistica, Modelo de los Estados-Unidos, E Industrial de Vicente Rios, Valencia". In terms of production quality, this is perhaps the best made 3-D political items we've ever encountered; clearly produce in very limited numbers. Neither we nor any longtime political hobby veterans, whom we consulted, has ever seen another example. Sure to attract great interest from the most sophisticated collectors of 19th century campaign relics. Base: 7 1/4" x 2", total height 10 7/8." Selections from the Collection of Tom Charles Huston.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
