Franklin D. Roosevelt: Large Wooden Bust by Hallstahammar. 22" x 11" wooden bust by Carl Hallsthammar. Hallsthammar was a Swedish born American sculptor who represented the United States during the 1932 Olympics in an art competition. The medals at the Olympics were given out for sports-related art pieces. Sadly, this piece can not be from those special games due to the obvious subject matter. Nevertheless, this bust of FDR is beautiful. One aspect we like in particular are the distinct markings made by Hallsthammar's tools on the wood, allowing for all to see just how much detail is really included. There are no outstanding issues with the bust itself; however, the stand it sits on has some paint loss with some nicks on the front, right, and left sides. Overall, this piece is in excellent condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
