Made my Larry Arata, who built Kennedy's own upholstered rocker.  Arata came to the White House in 1961, with a recommendation from Mrs. Paul Mellon, to assist with the restoration undertaken by Jacqueline Kennedy.  He worked at the White House throughout the entire project, specializing in upholstery.  He crafted a special rocker for Kenned to make him more comfortable with his ailing back, and the chair is now widely associated with JFK.

The present chair was custom-made by Arata for Raleigh Amyx in 1982, and is accompanied by a letter of explaination from Arata and his wife, Norma, who also worked on the restoration project.  (Both also worked to drape the East Room in black crepe for the arrival of JFK's body the night after the assassination.  See elsewhere in the section for a piece of that crepe offered for sale).

This is a very substantial and comfortable chair in excellent condition.  It is easy to see why Kennedy was so taken with it!  On the back are Arata's label and a brass plate reading, "Exact copy of authentic custom upholstered Presdident John F. Kennedy's rocker, crafted exclusively for him by Lawrence J. Arata, White House Staff, and duplicated for Raleigh DeGeer Amyx.  Nov. 22, 1982" (the anniversary date of the assassination).

Great, eminently usable piece.  Height 41". (Note: this item will be packed and shipped professionally at reasonable cost, paid by the buyer).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
