    Description

A Rare, Exceptional Example of the Oval 1900 Bryan & Stevenson Litho Tin Serving Tray. Oddly, the Bryan & Stevenson variety of this tray is many times scarcer than its McKinley & Roosevelt mate, in any condition. However, it is almost prohibitively so in such nice shape as the present example. Under closest inspection, there is the slightest bit of fine crazing in the paint, noted strictly for accuracy, and the usual tiny chips found on every such tray that was actually put to use. However, overall, this example is in great condition, as the photo shows, with no defects of consequence, perfectly clean, smooth surfaces, and strong color. We cannot recall seeing its equal for sale in the marketplace.

This particular specimen was purchased from a Slater auction in the very early 1990s, for nearly $1500, after some ferocious bidding. We recall the buyer noting at the time that, while he hated paying so much, he had been searching for years for a clean Bryan & Stevenson to display with his McKinley version. Today there are many collectors in the hobby with only the McKinley & Roosevelt version, so there should be great interest in this item. 16" x 13".
