[James K. Polk]: Large "Salt River Ticket" Newspaper Broadside. November 15, 1844 issue of the "Circleville Democratic Guard and Pickaway and Fayette Pilot." The back page of this Ohio Democratic paper contains a folksy woodcut of the Steamer "United States" headed for Salt River. The text below gives the details, indicating the boat will have a "full cargo of Coonskins, Junius Tracts, Roorback Forgeries, British Gold Humbugs, Clay Letters, Ash Poles, Flags and other paraphernalia, belonging to the late 'Clay Club' of Pickaway County." Election results follow. Wonderful graphics... the only newspaper broadside we have seen utilizing this theme. Measures 16" x 22" [folded]. Some inconsequential insect damage at the central horizontal fold, on either side. It deserves to be properly framed and prominently displayed! Selections from the Collection of Tom Charles Huston.
