    The Day Lincoln Was Shot

Union Soldiers in Washington: Large Mounted Albumen. 7.25" x 5.25" albumen affixed to a 10" x 7" mount, hinged behind an oval mat. It shows a group of Union soldiers gathered near two floral arches, likely anticipating a patriotic parade celebrating the capture of Richmond and the surrender of Robert E. Lee. The soldier in the foreground is identified as "Papa" and the manuscript caption reads: "Taken at Washington, D.C. the day Lincoln was shot. Sert. Major Ed English and the Non Comm. officers of the 6th U.S.V.V." Chipping and tears to mount, lateral crease in albumen on right side. Sold together with a slightly larger copy-image of the same photo in fair condition.
