    Union Major General Winfield Scott Hancock: Four Civil War Cartes de Visite. Including: (1)The general posed standing in uniform. With an Alexander Gardner backmark, and two cent tax stamp affixed to the verso. Lower edge slightly trimmed; general age toning to the recto and verso of the mount, some scuffing to image, else very good. (2) Another portrait of the general in uniform, standing with his right hand in his jacket in the style of the period. E. Anthony, New York backmark, from a Brady negative. A few scattered spots to the image (likely from the printing process), else fine condition. (3) The general in uniform, seated. With a Philip & Solomon's Metropolitan Gallery backmark. Minor age toning, else excellent condition. (4) Handsome bust portrait of the general, in uniform With a J. E. McClees, Philadelphia backmark. Mounting remnants of the verso, else very good condition. Winfield Scott Hancock (1824-1886) was an 1864 graduate of West Point. He fought with distinction in many battles, most notably at Gettysburg, where he sustained a wound which would affect him the rest of the war.
