    Union Major General William Worth Belknap: Carte de Visite and Twice-Signed Wartime Date Document. Includes: (1) Fantastic Brady albumen CDV of Belknap, circa 1870s, seated in civilian clothes. The verso has an elaborate Brady National Gallery studio mark. A crystal clear image, with slightly rounded corners, otherwise in fine condition. (2) Wartime quartermaster receipt for "one pair of cavalry trousers", approximately 6.75" x 2.25", partially printed the remainder completed in manuscript, Vicksburg, Mississippi, March 7, 1864, signed twice as Colonel of the 15th Iowa Infantry "Wm. W. Belknap, Col. 15th Iowa Infy". The paper has some uniform age toning, but Belknap's endorsements remain bold and legible. William Belknap (1829-1890) served with distinction in several actions during the war, though his most important service came during the Siege of Vicksburg, when the document in this lot was signed.
