    Union Major General George Sykes: Cartes de Visite, One Signed "Geo Sykes / Maj Genl". Including: (1) Fantastic CDV of Sykes posed seated in uniform with a Brady studio mark on the recto and verso. Sykes has signed his name and rank just beneath the image. Modest age toning to mount, else a clear, sharp image in excellent condition. (2) CDV of Sykes in uniform, seated with an E. & H.T. Anthony studio mark on the verso, from a Brady negative. Lower edge slightly trimmed and with minor toning, otherwise a sharp image in excellent condition. George Sykes (1822-1880) was an 1842 graduate of West Point who participated in several important battles during the Civil War including the First and Second Battles of Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg.
