Union Major General Andrew Atkinson Humphreys: Brady Albumen Cabinet Card and Wartime Date Autograph Letter Signed "A. A. Humphreys / Maj. Genl. Vols." The cabinet card measures 6" x 4.5" overall, with Brady studio marks on the recto and verso. General Humphreys poses outdoors, in uniform with sword next to an American flag. The image has modest age toning, otherwise it is sharp and in excellent condition. The image is accompanied by a one page autograph letter, 5" x 5", Washington, January 10, 1864, to George A. Tripp, Buffalo, New York. The general favors young George's request for an autograph, writing, in full: "Your note of the 11th inst. Followed me from the Army of the Potomac to this place, where I am passing a few days. I comply with your request with pleasure in subscribing myself. With friendly greeting...". The letter remains bright, legible and save for some minor mounting remnants at the corners, is in excellent condition. Andrew Humphreys (1810-1883) served at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Spotsylvania.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
