Union General William S. Rosencrans: Two Cartes de Visite, One cabinet Card, One Autograph Letter Signed, and One Cut Signature. In both CDVs, the general poses with his hand inside his double-breasted frock coat. Both bear photographer's imprints on the reverse of Anthony's of New York; one is "from photographic negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery." In the cabinet card, the general is featured in full military regalia. Written in ink on the reverse, "With Compliments of Brig. and Brevet Maj. Gen. U.S.A." In the ALS (one page on "Department of the Cumberland" letterhead from Murfreesboro [Tennessee] dated February 18, 1863), Rosencrans thanks an unnamed general for an art history book and promises the general "a copy of the first book I write!" The cut signature with rank measures 2.75" x .75". Minor foxing and soiling.
