Union General Alexander S. Webb Carte de Visite Signed "Alexr. S. Webb Lt. Col." 2.5" x 4", with a Brady's, New York imprint on verso. A bust portrait of Webb dressed in military uniform. Webb became a Brevet Major General in the Union Army and fought at the First Battle of Bull Run. He was aide-de-camp to General William Barry from July 1861 to April 1862 and later served as Barry's assistant inspector general during the Peninsula Campaign. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel just before the Battle of Antietam, and President Lincoln promoted him further to brigadier general on July 1, 1863. At the Battle of Gettysburg, he successfully defended Cemetery Ridge and the following day held the Federal center against Pickett's Charge. In 1891, Webb received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his gallantry in the field at Gettysburg. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

Condition: Foxing throughout, with light edge toning. On verso has been written in pencil "250." Else very good.
