    Description

Union Dr. Mary Walker Cartes de Visite (two). Each measures overall 2.5" x 4". Mary Walker served the Union during the Civil War as a doctor, spy, and POW. She won the Medal of Honor for bravery during the war-the only female recipient. In one photograph offered here, she proudly wears that Medal of Honor over her heart. Interestingly, Ms. Walker was also a feminist who preferred to wear men-style clothing (she was buried in 1919 in a black men's suit). In both of these images, she wears pants. Each image bears the imprint of Elliott & Fry on both sides. Minor wear and stains.
