    Description

Two Cartes de Visite Featuring Slave Children. Each measures 2.5" x 4" and features the same two children, who had been owned by Thomas White of Virginia until they were freed by a U.S. cavalry captain, who then turned them over to the Society of Friends. One CDV is labeled in print, "As we found them" and features the children in tattered clothing. The other CDV shows them in fine clothing, "As they are now." This CDV also provides the printed story (below the image) of their mother. No photographer's imprint. Only minor soiling.
